Hawaii Environmental Health: NEWS FLASH: Antiquities Act to fast track Northwestern Hawaiian Island protection
Home to more then 7,000 species, including marine mammals, fishes, sea turtles, and breeding grounds for millions of seabirds. Many are rare, threatened, or endangered. At least one quarter are endemic, like the Hawaiian monk seal, and found nowhere else on Earth. 140,000 square miles of small islands, submerged seamounts, the world's largest intact underwater coral and marine eco-system make up the area designated as the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands (NWHI).

The Hawaiian Adventure

Get New "Juice" in your Life
zipliner

Ahhh, the Hawaiian adventure. Who hasn't daydreamed about wild, swashbuckling excitement in the land of Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and scores of Hollywood movies? If Harrison Ford can do it, why can't you, right? He had the help of stuntmen, safety lines, and favorable camera angles, but fortunately for the average Joe, there are dozens of Hawaiian Adventure outfits that can make YOUR wildest dream a reality.

For the mildly adventurous, a hike through a botanical garden or a horseback ride to a hidden waterfall or finding yourself face to face with a sea turtle while snorkeling is enough to break up your daily routine and make you feel like a "Lost" character. Most visitors who do it say that learning to surf was the best part of their trip.

For those who need a bigger thrill, perhaps kite surfing, zip-lining or a kayak paddle along Kauai's Na Pali coast would satisfy your craving to be one with nature.

And for the extreme adventure types, why not try skydiving or check out Hawaii's underwater world and learn to scuba dive?

Whether you live in Hawaii and want to get some new juice in your life, you're a visitor and really want to live it up on a once-in-a-lifetime vacation, or want to get an unforgettable gift for the dads and grads in your life, you should definitely get a Hawaiian adventure on your calendar soon!

Can Acupuncture help you quit smoking?

Check out this article by Bart Walton LAc (Kauai) and find out.

Exactly how acupuncture works to reduce cravings is still under study. But it appears that stimulation of certain points in the ear has a direct influence on the brain to calm the nervous system and break the neuro-biological connections between the substance and the behavior. The result is like pushing the re-start button on a computer. The person gets a break from the constant craving and experiences greater freedom to reestablish a new behavior pattern.

How to Avoid a Shark Attack

Ten Safety Tips

1. Swim, surf or dive with other people, and don't move too far away from assistance.

2. Stay out of the water at dawn, dusk and night when some species of sharks move inshore to feed.

3. Do not enter the water if you have open wounds or are bleeding in any way. Sharks can detect blood and body fluids in very small concentrations.
